Information on Pottery Classes Winter 2023

The winter session of classes at the PEI Potters Studio will begin the week of January 9, 2023 and run for 10 weeks.

Perfect for beginners as well as those with previous experience, classes are taught by professional Island potters and are designed to be fun as well as educational. Classes are small in size and relaxed and informal in style.

The class covers the basics of clay preparation, wheel-throwing techniques, and glazing and decoration. Hand-building techniques can also be explored depending on interest. A great way to relieve stress and enhance creativity while learning a new skill, participants will have the opportunity to create their own pieces from start to finish.

Classes available:
  • A class for children ages 9 to 14 will be held on Saturdays from 10 to 12 beginning on Jan 7, 2023. Please note that there will be no classes on Feb 18, Feb 25 and March 4 due to the Canada Games and March break. Registration fee is $210 and includes all necessary materials.
  • Adult beginner classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays (choose one) from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. The Monday night class will be held from January 9 to March 13, 2023. The Thursday night class will be held from January 12 to March 16. The registration fee is $275, which includes one 20lb block of clay that should last the whole session. Additional clay may be purchased if necessary. All other necessary materials are provided.
Class registration:

Registration will take place online. It will open on Tuesday, December 13 from 7-9pm and the link will be posted on this site, www.peipottersstudio.com.

Due to the small size of our studio we can only accommodate a maximum of 8 students per class. Since there is a large demand for classes, and since Internet speeds differ it has been difficult to ensure that the first come first serve approach is working. So in order to be as fair as possible to everyone, we have decided to use a computer generated lottery system for registration in adult classes. Kids classes will remain on a first-registered basis.

Once the registration period is over, everyone who has signed up for each class will be entered into a software program that will choose names randomly. Those who have been randomly chosen will be contacted as soon as possible to confirm interest, and payment will be required within 48 hours to hold your spot. After the 48 hour period, any remaining spots will be offered to those next in the randomized draw.

We accept E-transfer, cheque or cash. For further information, please email registration@peipottersstudio.com.

Still w/o power (as of Oct 10th)

An update to blog followers -- last confirmed Oct 10th, Victoria Park and the Potters Studio is still w/o power now 3 weeks after storm Fiona. Looking at the power outage map from Maritime Electric this morning, the park seems to be the last with lines down with the remainder of the <1000 people in Charlottetown without power being individual issues, so we hope to get power back soon.

We will remain closed until power is restored.

People signed up for classes have been contacted by email.  We will resume classes ASAP with adjustments to be arranged.  Take care.

Pottery Classes-- Spring session 2022

In anticipation of Covid restrictions lifting, we are planning to hold pottery classes at the studio again this spring!

If all goes well, spring classes will begin in mid April and run for a 10 week period.

Classes available:
  • A class for children ages 9 to 14 will be held on Saturdays from 10 to 12 from April 9 to June 18. Please note that there will be no class on May 28. Registration fee is $175 and includes all necessary materials.
  •  Adult beginner classes will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays (choose one) from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. The Monday night class will be held from April 11 to June 20 (please note there will be no class on May 9). The Tuesday night class will be held from April 12 to June 14. The registration fee is $225, which includes one 20lb block of clay that should last the whole session. Additional clay may be purchased if necessary.
Class registration

Registration will take place online. Due to the small size of our studio we can only accommodate a maximum of 8 students per class.

Since there is a large demand for classes, and since Internet speeds differ it has been difficult to ensure that the first come first serve approach is working. So in order to be as fair as possible to everyone, we have decided to use a computer generated lottery system for registration in adult classes for this next session on a pilot basis.  Kids classes will remain on a first-registered basis.

The spring 2022 class online registration will open on Wednesday, March 23rd from 7-9pm and the link will be posted on this site, www.peipottersstudio.com.

Once the registration period is over, everyone who has signed up for each class will be entered into a software program that will choose names randomly. Those who have been randomly chosen will be contacted as soon as possible to confirm interest and payment will be required within 48 hours to hold your spot. After the 48 hour period, any remaining spots will be offered to those next in the randomized draw. We accept E-transfer, cheque or cash.

Co-op membership

Once adults have completed a beginners’ class, they are eligible to join the studio as a co-op member, with a $10 co-op fee and an annual fee of $240. We are currently at full capacity so any interested person would be added to our waiting list instead of being added right away. New members are admitted in April of each year based on open spaces available.

For further information please contact Barb at bajmacdonald@gmail.com.

Winter pottery class session cancelled

Due to the small size of our studio and the continued restrictions on gatherings when physical distancing cannot be maintained, it will be necessary for us to cancel the winter classes completely. We will stay tuned to the guidelines from the Chief Public Health Officer and hope that we will be able to offer a session in the spring, tentatively from mid-April to mid June. We will try to provide a further update in mid-March on exact dates and registration details. If you have any questions, please contact Barb at bajmacdonald@gmail.com.

Update on Winter Classes

Due to continuing concerns about the spread of Covid-19 in PEI, we have decided to put a hold on our winter classes until further notice. We are considering cancelling them completely and beginning the spring session a bit earlier than usual. Due to the small size of our studio and the difficulty of ensuring physical distancing for groups of over 5 people at a time, we feel it would be best to postpone. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause. A further update will be provided on this blog site by February 1.
