The PEI Potters Studio is a co-operative pottery studio for both new and experienced potters. We offer 10-week pottery classes for beginner and advanced potters three times a year that normally start in January, either March or April and then September. Our studio is open to our members whenever classes are not taking place.

Winter Pottery Class Session
The winter session of pottery classes at the PEI Potters Studio in Victoria Park, Charlottetown will begin in January, 2020 for a 10 week period.
Perfect for beginners as well as those with previous experience, classes are taught by professional Island potters and are designed to be fun as well as educational. Classes are small in size (a maximum of 8) and relaxed and informal in style. The class covers the basics of clay preparation, wheel-throwing techniques, and glazing and decoration. Hand-building techniques can also be explored depending on interest. A great way to relieve stress and enhance creativity while learning a new skill, participants will have the opportunity to create their own pieces from start to finish.
Adult beginners classes will be offered on Mondays or Thursdays (choose one) from 6:30 to 9:30 pm beginning the week of January 13. A class for children ages 9 to 14 will be held on Saturdays from 10 to 12 beginning on January 11.

Annual Fundraising Pottery Sale
The annual fundraising sale for the PEI Potters Studio will be held on Saturday, August 17 from 9 am to noon at the Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown. Look for us in the upstairs area near the food court (please follow the signs to find us).
Work by studio members and students, as well as professional Island potters, will be available at great prices! The PEI Potters Studio is a non-profit cooperative dedicated to the promotion of the art of pottery making in PEI. Funds raised from the sale will help the studio provide opportunities for children and adults to learn about and enjoy working with clay. For more information contact Judy at 902-394-0941.

Update on Pottery Clas Registration
Thank you to everyone who registered for a class! Unfortunately the Monday and Thursday night beginner classes filled up very quickly. We will be in touch soon to confirm whether you are in the class.
There are still openings in the Tuesday night intermediate class, but a reminder that previous experience in pottery is required to take this class.
There are also still openings available for the childrens classes on Saturdays (10 to 12 and, if there are enough students, 1 to 3).

Classes are taught by professional Island potters and are designed to be fun as well as educational. Classes are small in size (maximum of 8), relaxed and informal in style. Hand-building techniques can also be explored depending on interest. A great way to relieve stress and enhance creativity while learning a new skill! Participants will get a thorough introduction to the art of pottery making and have fun while creating their own pieces from start to finish.
Registration fee is $225 for ten weeks (includes a 20 lb block of clay). Payment is accepted by E-transfer, cheque or cash.

Joan Bruneau is a
professional Studio Potter and sole proprietor of Nova Terra Cotta Pottery in
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Joan
was born in 1963 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her love of travel and food sparked
her desire to become a potter, after discovering the authentic cuisines and
pottery traditions of Europe while back-packing in 1983-84. She went on to earn
her BFA from NSCAD University in 1988, and MFA from the University of Minnesota
in 1993. Joan established Nova Terra Cotta, her studio/strorefront in
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1995. Joan was Assistant Professor at Emily Carr
University ( Vancouver, BC) from 1998-2002 and has been Regular Part-Time
Ceramics Faculty at NSCAD University since 1995.
Her
work is exhibited throughout North America and is in recognized private and
public collections, including the AGNS, Canada, Sykes Gallery, USA and
Jingdezhen Ceramics Institute, China. Joan was the 2009 recipient of the
Established Artist Recognition Award from the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture
Partnership and the 2005 recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award which funded
her residency at La Meridiana Ceramics Residency in Italy in 2005.
She
teaches workshops across North America and has taught in the Distance Ceramics
Diploma Programs at the Australia National University and the Glasgow School of
Art. Joan is a Demonstrating Artist at NCECA in Pittsburgh, 2018.

Since the workshops are in two different locations, you must register for
each separately if you would like to attend both days. Combined cost for both days is $75.
