Registration Information for Pottery Classes -- Winter Session

The winter session of pottery classes at the PEI Potters Studio in Victoria Park, Charlottetown will begin in January.

Perfect for beginners as well as those with previous experience, classes are taught by professional Island potters and are designed to be fun as well as educational. Classes are small in size (a maximum of 8) and relaxed and informal in style. The class covers the basics of clay preparation, wheel-throwing techniques, and glazing and decoration. Hand-building techniques can also be explored depending on interest. A great way to relieve stress and enhance creativity while learning a new skill, participants will have the opportunity to create their own pieces from start to finish.

Openings for adult beginners classes are available on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 pm beginning the week of January 8. Classes for children ages 9 to 14 will be held on Saturdays from 10:00-12:00 beginning on January 6. If there is enough interest another class will be offered from 1 to 3 pm. All classes run for a 10 week period. The registration fee for an adult class is $225 (price includes a 20lb block of clay) and for a children's class is $175.
Registration is online and is first come first serve except for spaces reserved for returning students and those who have received gift certificates. Registration will be open on December 11 at 9 am. Please check this site for the link to the registration form. For more information, and to purchase a Christmas gift certificate (by December 9), please contact Barb at 902-218-2493 or bajmacdonald@gmail.com.

"An Enchanted Forest": An Art in the Open pictorial presentation

The PEI Potters Studio had a great time getting pieces together for our "An Enchanted Forest" display as part of the 26 Aug 2017 "Art in the Open" project.

The following pictures are just a few samples of the show.  Thanks very much to the photgraphers who helped me with the pictures.  Shown below are pictures taken from dusk to full dark.

Thanks to everyone who came.  This was a group project for the studio and we had a large percentage of our members either make pieces and or help with setting up and taking down the pieces. We had a lot of great comments from viewers and a great time.  Thanks also to all the organizers of the "Art in the Open" event.  You do a tremendous amount of work.

PEI Potters Studio Presents "An Enchanted Forest" for Art in the Open

Members of the PEI Potters Studio are excited to present a special project as part of Art in the Open this year. Using their imagination and skills in handbuilding and clay sculpting, studio members have created an amazing variety of whimsical ceramic pieces that will be installed in a wooded area in Victoria Park near the location of the studio.

Follow an illuminated path into an enchanted forest glen and discover a magical fairy village, complete with fairies and goblins, fairy houses and doors, toadstools and butterflies—and a few surprises!  Everyone is welcome to visit the exhibit between 4 pm and midnight on Saturday, August 26.

The PEI Potters Studio is grateful for financial support from the Community Cultural Partnership Program as well as in-kind support from This Town is Small.

Fundraising Sale 2017 (Post-sale update)

The PEI Potters Studio would like to thank everyone who attended our sale and made it a great success. This was made possible due to all the people who donated pottery pieces: pottery course instructors, studio members, and past students.   This was our best sale ever and the funds will be used to help our non-profit co-operative run and keep fees as low as we can.

I took a couple pictures in the morning when it started to get quite busy; these picture below don't show how packed it was by 9am.  We unpacked as fast as we could and near the starting time the tables were crammed with pottery and people.

We'd like to thank everyone who helped out with the sale as the many hands made much lighter work. Thanks also to the people who shopped and for being being co-operative in the queue to pay that developed for a while.

By the end of the sale, we were left with about half of what is being shown in the picture above.

The next annual sale will be the Saturday of the Gold Cup and Saucer event in 2018.
